I don't post much on my blog anymore. Frequency took a huge downturn when social media became popular. I could use Facebook or whatever to stay in touch with friends, families, others, whatever I wanted to say. And over the years, Facebook artificial 'intelligence' has been good at banning me for mostly innocuous "offensive" GIF comments, believe it or not. One was "blake nipple" GIF. Last night's was honey boo boo's Mama Jade blowing a kiss. Yes, snarky, but no, not disgusting at least to nearly Keep reading [...]
One more challenge was actually getting the welder from Bristol to Nashville. I had to rent a pickup truck, drive to Bristol. The welder cart was so big I had to leave it behind. The guys I bought it from loaded it in the truck for me. After returning to Nashville, I went to my buddy Sal's place and used a chain hoist to unload it from the truck, load it on a furniture dolly and loaded it on a tilting trailer. Hauled it to the house and rolled it off the trailer.
From there, I spent Keep reading [...]
I've been running my site on Geeklog for many years now, at least 5 or 6. It's time for a facelift. Contemplating the change for many years, even through serving for two years as webmaster for harpethbikeclub.com using Joomla, I finally settled in on WordPress. It allows easy BLOG posting, it has wide support, interesting and powerful plug-ins, strong mobile support and it seems easy (honestly installing Joomla plugins are easier.) Why didn't I simply use Blogger? Well, I want the power Keep reading [...]
I don't know if many folks have heard of a 365 project. You essentially take one photo per day and post it to a set on Flickr. The basic rule is you have to post a picture from that day, which means you have to take a picture every day. Some folks say you're supposed to be in every one of them. I'm not following that rule in mine. I kind of use it as a photo diary.http://www.flickr.com/photos/23855991@N05/sets/72157623115200318/The hard part is when you have a long day Keep reading [...]

Someone sent me these amazing videos of this robot build by Boston Dynamics under a DARPA research grant. Truly amazing.
Here it is in its current form. You can see that it's pretty sophisticated.
But, it hasn't always been that way. Here is version 1. You can see they've come a very long way.
Long story short, keep working hard at something and you can go from 'stupid robot' to 'that thing kicks ass.' Keep reading [...]
Integrity - defined as "Adherence to a code of values; utter sincerity, honesty, candor; completeness." I believe it's doing what you say you're gonna do, even when it's difficult or even becomes inconvenient. Adventure Integrity - sometimes you get in a conversation with an adventurous friend. A conversation comes up about a really interesting but challenging bike ride or hike. OK, you're sold, and you agree that it's something you're going to train for, prepare and do. Keep reading [...]
I hired Gabriel's Tree Service to remove most of the bamboo from my back yard in preparation for a fence. I wanted to mention the positive things from the experience.
I found Gabriel on craigslist.org. Seemed like he said the right stuff in his ad, so I called. 615-582-2623. He came over and left me a very competitive quote, later started the work.
Bamboo is probably one of the worst materials to remove for tree people. The roots are covered with dirt, and the silicon embedded in the material Keep reading [...]
